What is CAD/CAM software?

CAD/CAM stands for "computer-aided design" and "computer-aided manufacturing". CAD/CAM software is used to plan, develop and manufacture prototypes, finished products and production processes. The possibilities are almost unlimited. To present the initial design, the products are "rendered" so that a realistic object is created (see objects on the right).

What is CAD/CAM software used for?

CAD/CAM Software Applications serve both the development of the product and the programming of the manufacturing processes (CNC machining). CAM software uses the models and assemblies created in CAD software to generate toolpaths for machine tools, turning digital models into physical parts. CAD/CAM software is used for planning, developing and manufacturing prototypes, finished components and production processes.

 

From the idea to the finished part in just a few steps:

  3. Specify milling paths and cutting data

  4. Generate code for machine

  5. Milling

Step 1: Idea

-What material is being milled?

-What shape?

-Do I need a 3-axis or 5-axis milling machine?

Step 2: CAD / CAM

-CAD/CAM component design (e.g. with Fusion360).

-Set zero point.

-Draw holes.

-Enter dimensions.

Step 3: Create program

-Specify the blank.

-Select suitable milling strategies.

-Adapt tools and cutting data. Create collision check using simulation DIN code.

Step 4: Milling the component

-Switch on the machine and clamp the raw part (vice).

-measure the blank

-Call up the DIN code

-Start processing cycle
